Pokiri: In-Depth Storyline, Characters & Themes
The Landmark That Redefined Indian Action Cinema
Pokiri is widely regarded by film historians as a watershed moment in South Indian commercial cinema. Director Puri Jagannadh stripped away cinematic clichés to deliver raw, punchy dialogues, stylish cinematography, and an effortlessly cool protagonist whose nonchalant swagger set fashion and attitude trends for an entire generation.
The famous punch dialogue "Okka sari commit ayithe na maata nene vinanu" (Once I commit, I don't even listen to myself) became immortalized across Indian pop culture. The film's massive formula was later officially remade in Tamil as Pokkiri starring Vijay and in Hindi as Salman Khan's career-reviving blockbuster Wanted (2009).
Record-Breaking Theatrical Run
Produced on a modest budget of ₹12 crore, Pokiri completed an astonishing 500-day run in theaters and collected over ₹66 crore worldwide in 2006, holding the record as the highest-grossing Telugu movie of all time for over three years.
