Raees

Storyline

Raees is a stylish, hard-hitting retro-action crime saga directed by Rahul Dholakia, presenting Shah Rukh Khan in an electrifying, gray-shaded avatar set against the dry, politically charged landscape of 1980s Gujarat. The narrative chronicles the meteoric ascent of Raees Alam, an exceptionally sharp-witted boy raised in the impoverished lanes of Fatehpura who absorbs his mother’s defining philosophy: no trade is small, and no religion is greater than work, provided it harms no innocent soul. Starting from the bottom of an illicit liquor syndicate in a prohibition-bound state, Raees demonstrates ruthless commercial acumen, courage, and charismatic leadership, swiftly breaking away to establish his own independent, multi-million-rupee bootlegging empire. Yet, Raees is far from an ordinary gangster; he operates as a benevolent Robin Hood to his community, funding hospitals, schools, and civic welfare while shielding the downtrodden from predatory politicians. However, his unassailable reign meets a formidable, incorruptible nemesis in ACP Jaideep Ambalal Majmudar, a relentless police officer whose singular obsession is to dismantle Raees's syndicate and place him behind bars. As Majmudar launches an uncompromising, cat-and-mouse crusade of targeted raids and political crackdowns, Raees finds himself entrapped by backstabbing underworld syndicates whose betrayal leads to catastrophic consequences. Punctuated by thunderous dialogues, Kalyanji-Anandji's reimagined retro rhythms, and razor-sharp dramatic friction between Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Raees is a gripping, tragic exploration of ambition, pride, and the heavy price of power.
