Silsila

Cast of Silsila (Film), Box Office Gross, Budget & Streaming Guide

"Love is a storm that refuses to subside."

Storyline

Silsila is Yash Chopra’s magnum opus of mature romantic drama, celebrated as one of the most sophisticated, visually poetic, and emotionally complex cinematic explorations of passion versus matrimonial duty ever filmed in India. The narrative introduces Amit Malhotra, a passionate romantic poet living in picturesque Kashmir, and his elder brother Shekhar, a dashing Indian Air Force squadron leader. Amit falls deeply, irrevocably in love with the ethereal Chandni, and the couple plans an idyllic future together as Shekhar becomes engaged to his sweet fiancée, Shobha. However, tragedy shatters their paradise when Shekhar is killed in action during an aerial combat mission, leaving behind a pregnant, heartbroken Shobha. In a profound gesture of familial honor and moral self-sacrifice to rescue Shobha from social ruin, Amit makes the agonizing decision to abandon his own dreams, parting from Chandni to wed Shobha. Brokenhearted and bewildered, Chandni subsequently marries Dr. Anand, an earnest and compassionate surgeon who is unaware of her past agony. Years drift past in quiet, dutiful domesticity until a fateful twist of fate reunites Amit and Chandni in Delhi. Overwhelmed by suppressed longing and the inescapable gravity of their true love, the former lovers succumb to an illicit, intense affair that sends shockwaves through their respective marriages and social circles. Set against the breathtaking canvas of vibrant Dutch tulip fields and accompanied by Shiv-Hari's immortal soundtrack—featuring timeless melodies like 'Dekha Ek Khwab' and 'Rang Barse' alongside Javed Akhtar's exquisite verses—Silsila navigates the tempestuous moral storms of the human heart with unforgettable elegance, maturity, and heartbreaking honesty.
